Museum Beelden aan Zee presents the first solo exhibition of visual artist Vera Gulikers (1991) in the Netherlands: Love over Gold. Her sculptures and paintings explore the girlish and feminine in art. Her iconic sculptures of colorful female figures with swinging legs like a vacuum cleaner hose, are an ironic reference to the prevailing ideal of beauty. Gulikers explores the theme of the self-portrait. Hidden in a dog's body, painting, or mop you will encounter her face. In Het Kabinet and Zeezaal, the museum will display both her paintings and her newest and previously unseen sculptures.
In 2017, Gulikers won the Koninklijke Schilderprijs. She studied at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht, Sint Lucas in Antwerp and the ABKM in Maastricht. Her work is included in collections such as Akzo Nobel Art Foundation, Bonnefanten, ING and DSM.
