In Memoriam Cornelius Rogge (1932-2023)

Museum Beelden aan Zee wishes to express its condolences to the family of the sculptor Cornelius Rogge, who passed away on January 17 of this year.

Cornelius Rogge

Rogge was seen as an eminent Dutch sculptor. His oeuvre consisted of a personal quest in which, according to him, change was the great constant. Rogge mystified his work through a personal mythology. Within the Netherlands, he was therefore considered a loner, while internationally he found connection through this approach, reminiscent of Joseph Beuys. His work is represented in all major Dutch museum and corporate collections and in public spaces. Notable exhibitions included the Tent Project in 1975 (Kröller Müller) and the oeuvre overview in 1999 (Rijksmuseum Twenthe). In 1986, he received the prestigious David Roëll Prize together with Carel Visser.

Museum Beelden aan Zee has 21 works in the collection. In 2008, the museum showed Rogge's Soul Ships. Furthermore, works were displayed in Fathers and Sons in 2010 and Abstract+Sculpture in 2022.
