What is Museum Beelden aan Zee?

Museum Beelden aan Zee was founded in 1994 by the collector couple Theo and Lida Scholten. It is the only museum in the Netherlands that focuses exclusively on modern and contemporary sculpture. The collection contains more than 5,000 works, including plaster models and medals. The museum organizes approximately 10 exhibitions per year.

What are the opening hours?

The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Please note: the museum is closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. On other public holidays, the museum may be open, but this can vary.

Can I change or cancel my online ticket?

Yes, you can do this via the link in the confirmation email. Through your customer portal, you can change the date yourself or cancel the tickets entirely.
Are you cancelling the tickets? Please note a cancellation fee of €2.50. You can cancel your tickets up until the start of your time slot. The time slot starts at 10:00 AM on the date of your planned visit.

I forgot my Museum Pass. Can I still enter?

Without a scannable barcode, we cannot grant you access to the museum. A photo of your Museum Pass is not a valid entry ticket. However, you can visit the museum with a digital Museum Pass. For that, go to the Museum Pass app. The Museum Pass is still strictly personal, whether you use the physical or digital version.

The museum is located at Harteveltstraat 1, 2586 EL in The Hague, near the Scheveningen beach. You can easily reach our museum by public transport, but there are also parking garages nearby,

Can I reach the museum by public transport?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the museum is easily accessible by tram and bus. Consult the 9292 website for current travel times and routes.

Is there parking available?

Accepted Answer

As of April 2026, a progressive parking rate is in effect. You pay €7 for the first 20 minutes. After that, the price increases every 10 minutes. If you stay longer than 90 minutes, the total cost is €50. This is strictly enforced. We therefore recommend using one of the parking garages in the immediate area.

We advise you to use one of the parking garages in the vicinity of the museum. The parking facilities APCOA Parking (maximum clearance height 1.90 m, Nieuwe Parklaan 248) and Interparking Boulevard (Strandweg 179) are within walking distance of the museum. Another option is APCOA Parking Strand (Zwolsestraat 426). We recommend driving as far as possible into this parking garage; from there, it’s about a 15-minute walk to the museum (via the boulevard).

Is the museum (wheelchair) accessible for people with reduced mobility?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the entire museum is wheelchair accessible and walkers are also allowed. We have a wheelchair lift next to the stairs at the entrance that you can use independently. We also have a toilet for the disabled in the entrance hall.

Is the museum accessible with a (large) mobility scooter?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the entire museum is accessible for visitors with a mobility scooter. If you have a large mobility scooter, we kindly ask you to call +31 (0)70 2181824 first, so we can assist you in entering the museum via a safe route. Large mobility scooters do not fit in our wheelchair lift, and we guide them via the parking lot.

Yes, we have 2 wheelchairs available. You can indicate in advance on which date and time you would like to reserve a wheelchair, but you may also request them on the spot.

Are there enough places to sit in the museum?

Yes, there are in principle seats in the exhibition spaces. Additionally, we also have collapsible, portable stools that you can use throughout the museum.

May I bring my assistance dog to the museum?

Accepted Answer

Assistance dogs with a certificate are warmly welcome on a leash. Other dogs and pets are not allowed in the museum.

Is there a museum café?

Yes, there is a museum café with a terrace. Our Bistro BAZ offers a selection of hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, salad, soup of the day, and Dudok cakes and pastries.

Bags larger than A-4 size (21 x 29 cm), umbrellas, and similar large items are not allowed in the museum. Coats and small bags are permitted. We have a free cloakroom and free lockers in the entrance area. The management of Museum Beelden aan Zee is not responsible for theft or loss of your belongings.

Is there a museum shop?

Yes, there is a (online) museum shop. We offer exhibition catalogues, books on sculpture and artists, postcards, posters, design and luxury items such as jewelry and ceramics. Our assortment also partly corresponds with the exhibitions currently on display. In the museum shop, payments can only be made by card.

The library is accessible to museum visitors, unless there are special receptions or meetings taking place. On weekends, the library is closed.

What is there to do for children in the museum?

At the back of the Gipsotheek is The Studio, an inspiring space for young and old where all the senses are stimulated. Here you can get acquainted with the materials used in making sculptures, and you can get started yourself. For the youngest museum visitors, there are fun coloring pages, and during major exhibitions, there is often a free treasure hunt at the entrance. Free admission for children up to and including 12 years of age.

Are there special activities for people with disabilities?

Yes, we offer the program Binnen handbereik (in Dutch), for people with a visual impairment. A specially trained museum employee will take you, along with your possible companion, on a tour in a small group. We will visit sculptures that can be touched. Do you offer tours?

Every day at 11:30 am and 3:00 pm, there is a free flash tour with information about the exhibitions. Visitors can sign up at the ticket desk. Tours in Dutch are subject to guide availability.* The tour will only proceed if a guide is available .

*We occasionally offer English tours, depending on the availability of guides. Please ask about the options at the entrance.

We offer guided tours for groups, which you can reserve in advance. For €90 (maximum 15 people, excluding museum entrance), your group will receive a one-hour tour, through an exhibition of your choice or along all current exhibitions.

Museum Beelden aan Zee offers a varied range of educational activities. During a visit, children can explore the gallery with a discovery tour, color the most fun coloring pages, and work with different materials themselves. In addition, there are workshops for primary and secondary school students, as well as for visitors during the holidays. A customized program is also possible.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to charge the electric bicycle. However, there are 4 chargers for electric cars on Pellenaerstraat. These cannot be reserved.
