Tirzo Martha

Tirzo Martha is back in the museum Beelden aan Zee! After his major solo exhibition No Excuses! in 2017-2018, he is working this autumn as part of Studio aan Zee on two large sculptures that will be on display in the atrium. As with all his projects, Martha will once again collaborate with various groups of people from society. Their different backgrounds and perspectives on art logically result in particularly original installations that make use of all kinds of materials and pre-existing objects. What the work will be about and how it will look is still uncertain, it naturally emerges and is discussed during the creation process.

Such installations and performances by Tirzo Martha (1965) are a way to show his social involvement. In this way, he brings together diverse communities and cultures. It forms his main motivation to create art.

Recently, Tirzo Martha has been frequently in the news because he was entrusted with the first 'Art Parade' for the renovation of the Binnenhof in The Hague, in which he transformed the meaning of the term 'seat' into a grand collective artwork.
