Man Ray

Filmmaker and sculptor

To mark the fiftieth anniversary of Man Ray’s death, Museum Beelden aan Zee presents a personal tribute to his unrivalled artistry. Central to this exhibition is Herma (1975), a bronze sculpture from the museum's own collection, embodying Man Ray's timeless and groundbreaking vision. The work is displayed alongside a selection of his short films, offering visitors a unique insight into Man Ray's versatility and imagination as both a sculptor and filmmaker. This exhibition provides a rare opportunity to experience the artistic legacy of Man Ray in its full breadth and depth and to be touched once again by his revolutionary perspective on art and film.

Man Ray (Philadelphia, 1890 – Paris, 1976), born Emmanuel Radnitzky, was a groundbreaking artist whose innovative mindset was expressed through a rich variety of materials and experimental techniques. Driven by an unrelenting curiosity, Man Ray established his name as a pioneering photographer and filmmaker, while his artistic base in Paris brought him into contact with influential avant-gardists such as Marcel Duchamp.
