Step into the world of dance and sculpture during this special masterclass, led by sculptor Yke Prins. We begin the workshop with an inspiring visit to the exhibition Ryan Gander x Edgar Degas – Pas de Deux. In this exhibition, the work of the British artist Ryan Gander enters into a dialogue with that of the French master Edgar Degas. Central to this is Gander's contemporary reinterpretation of Degas’ iconic Petite Danseuse de Quatorze Ans – a series of 22 sculptures in which the young dancer steps off her pedestal and comes to life in modern, expressive poses.
After this visual stimulus, you will get to work yourself in the Atelier. Under the guidance of Yke Prins, you will learn how to build an armature from copper wire – the skeleton of your sculpture – and model around it with brown or black modeling wax. Various sizes of wooden pedestals are available to present your work on. The end result? An expressive, personal sculpture – inspired by the exhibition, but entirely your own.
A unique opportunity to work as a sculptor, in an inspiring environment, under the guidance of a professional.
