The Atelier

Let the senses be stimulated in the Atelier!

At the back of the Gipsotheek is The Atelier, a space where young and old can get creative and all senses are stimulated.

The Atelier has a permanent setup of three worktables, accommodating about 30 students or visitors. Here, you can get acquainted with the materials used in making sculptures and get hands-on experience. In the material cabinets, you can find creative assignments and learn more about the working methods of artists like Henry Moore, Johan Tahon, or Tirzo Martha. At the drawing table, you can sketch sculptures (or each other) and learn to observe proportions and lines accurately. With the mirror assignment, you can experiment with symmetry and reflection. For the youngest museum visitors, there are fun coloring pages and storybooks.

The Atelier is surrounded by the impressively filled display cases of the Gipsotheek. Here, you can draw inspiration from the plaster studies and models of Marie Andriessen, Cor Hund, or Tom Claassen. With a few small rearrangements, the display cases have gained a more educational and thematic character. Through examples like The Dockworker, the bust of Giacomo Rossini, or a plaster version of Anne Frank, stories from history come to life.

Be welcome and visit The Atelier during your visit!
