Fair Practice Code and Cultural Governance Code
Museum Beelden aan Zee attaches great importance to a fair art climate, in which artists, museum employees, and freelancers are properly rewarded. To support the realization of this ambition, the museum follows the guidelines established by Kunsten92, De Zaak Nu, the Mondriaan Fund, and the Ministry of OC&W. For the payment of artists, the Artist Fee Calculator is used. The museum is a member of the Museum Association and applies the employment conditions guidelines for Museums regarding the payment of its employees.
Museum Beelden aan Zee is a cultural ANBI foundation and employs a governance model that emphasizes integrity and protects internal control and separation of functions. The board consists of five or more members, one of whom holds a quality seat. The number of members is determined by the board. The quality seat is filled on the recommendation of the founders of the foundation and their direct descendants. The board members are appointed for a period of four years. The board has established a retirement schedule. A retiring member can be reappointed once. The supervisory directors do not receive financial compensation for their work.
In 2023, the statutes of the Beelden aan Zee Foundation were revised, incorporating the principles of the Governance Code Culture 2019, the Fair Practice Code, and the Code Diversity and Inclusion. The renewed statutes have also been assessed against the WBTR.
The collection and building of Beelden aan Zee are housed in the De Onvoltooide foundation. The Museum Beelden aan Zee Foundation has a long-term loan agreement and lease agreement with the De Onvoltooide foundation. The Museum Beelden aan Zee Foundation, the applicant, is responsible for the museum policy, operation, and public accessibility of the collection and building.
Diversity and Inclusion
Museum Beelden aan Zee aims to allow as many people as possible to enjoy sculpture, regardless of age, cultural or social background, gender, or disability. The Code Diversity & Inclusion is observed by Museum Beelden aan Zee by always measuring the artistic program, audience reach, staff, and intended partners against this standard.
In 2019, a diversity and inclusion committee was established, with a baseline measurement in accordance with the scan from the Code Diversity & Inclusion as a starting point. With regard to the staff composition and recruitment procedure, as much consideration as possible is given to diversity and inclusion—not only culturally but also socially. Among the staff and volunteers are an employee with a hearing impairment, people with refugee status, and an employee with an intellectual disability.
In the development of the artistic program, sculpture is programmed in its full breadth. This involves not only looking at the art historical value but also the contemporary social and cultural relevance. The program pays attention to artists from different cultural backgrounds, of diverse genders, and with a broad perspective on the cultural sector.
The side program and audience approach are also focused on target groups from all layers of society. Special attention is given to people with physical or mental disabilities. Not only is the building accessible to wheelchair users, the blind, and visually impaired, but the museum also organizes activities tailored to people with Alzheimer's or mild dementia or with a visual impairment.
Finally, the economic position of our fellow citizens should not be a barrier to visiting the museum, so Beelden aan Zee is freely accessible to people with an Ooievaarspas.
