At museum Beelden aan Zee, children experience sculpture in a playful way. When they arrive the museum, our guides introduce them to the special location of the museum (at the seaside, hidden in a dune), and then talk with them about how statues and figures are created. The children are divided into small groups in order to touch various materials and talk about them. Through guided discussion, they become acquainted with the tools used in sculpting. They discuss a number of works of art, including what the artist wanted to depict and or what the artist’s inspiration might have been. The lesson ends with an activity where the children will be able to use their new ways of thinking, perceiving and creating to make a figure themselves.
